Where to work during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Post on March 20, 2020

The Coronavirus is impacting us all in different ways. As each of us is doing our part to limit the spread of the virus, we’re learning to adapt to new ways of working and living. Following the government’s advice, most companies are asking employees to work from home, work in shifts or commute at off-peak hours where possible.

While it’s a good thing that companies are building systems to allow for flexible working now and in the future, many people find it very challenging to work from home. It’s hard to sustain the same productivity levels when you have limited or unsuitable space to work in, or kids constantly tugging at your arms.

That’s why many people – employees and employers alike – are wondering whether co-working spaces are a safe and viable alternative to working from home. To answer that, a few things need to be considered.

Firstly, it’s important to follow the advice given by the WHO and the government and make sure you’re not putting yourself or others at risk by working in a public space.

Then, check what precautions the co-working space is taking to ensure a hygienic and safe environment for all. Our partner spaces, for example, have confirmed that they are following government regulations to promote social distancing and:

  • Temperature screening everyone who enters the premises.
  • Denying entry to those with symptoms or those who have travelled abroad in the past 14 days.
  • Regularly sanitising high-frequency touchpoints like doors, door handles, common areas, meeting rooms, reception areas, kitchen cupboards and furniture to minimise risk.
  • Informing and educating members on WHO advice via email and on-site notices.
  • Ensuring staff are fully equipped with hygiene supplies and trained in enforcing the above precautions.
  •

Lastly, if you do choose to go to a co-working space, make sure you’re being socially responsible and observing good personal hygiene while you’re there.

If all the necessary precautions are diligently followed, co-working spaces can be a good solution for employees who don’t have the facilities to work from home and for employers who want to provide staff with everything they need to stay productive in this difficult time.

Wherever you choose to work, remember to stay positive, stay flexible and stay safe.

We’ll get through this together!
